VFW Post 7507 members grade the essays, pick winners and forward to VFW Arizona District 4 for upper level competition. Winners at the District level are forwarded to VFW Department of Arizona for judging at that level with the winning essays going to the national VFW.

In the area of leadership, I have recently received the Rotary Youth Leadership Award from a local rotary club, have been asked to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law and the Constitution in Washington D.C., and wrote the winning essay on patriotism for South Plainfield's VFW chapter.

All the essays were very good, interesting, and comprehensive, making it very challenging for the judges to pick the winning essay. Ledyard VFW Post 4608 congratulates and is proud of all the fine young people who took part in this years contest.

The District winners will attend a banquet for VFW student scholarships in January where the top five essays are recognized and monetary prizes are awarded. The first-place student will present the winning essay and will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C. to join the other state winners for special activities.
